In 30 seconds
- Celta failed to score in five of their last ten games, the latest a 0–0 at Elche on Sun 11 Oct.
- Juventus top the league-phase table after matchday 1, but drew 1–1 at Cagliari on Sun 11 Oct and are without Yildiz, Locatelli, Thuram and Grabara.
- Bremer will keep Durán quiet, and one Juventus goal wins it.
The story
Claudio Giráldez's Celta Vigo have forgotten how to win. In their last ten games they have one victory, a 5–0 against Racing Santander on 19 Sep. Their Europa League campaign began with a 0–1 defeat at Omonia Nicosia on 16 Sep, which leaves them 25th of 36 in the league-phase table. Balaídos has not been a fortress this season either: Athletic Club and Osasuna both won there in August. In Europe it was different; UEFA.com points out that Celta lost only two of their seven European games at Balaídos on the way to last season's quarter-finals.
Luciano Spalletti's Juventus sit top of that table after beating NEC 5–0 on 17 Sep with five different scorers. Serie A has been bumpier: a 2–3 defeat at Sassuolo and a 1–1 with AC Milan in September. On Sun 11 Oct at Cagliari they needed Randal Kolo Muani's 81st-minute header, his first goal of the season, to draw 1–1 after Daniel Maldini's opener. Spalletti and the Cagliari coach Fabio Pisacane were both sent off after the final whistle following a touchline scuffle; Football Italia reports that any ban would cost him the Serie A home game against Lazio. The bigger problem is the treatment room: Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Khephren Thuram and goalkeeper Kamil Grabara are all sidelined, Grabara for the rest of the season.
So the question is whether Celta can score. Pablo Durán led the line at Elche, with Ferran Jutglà and Hugo Álvarez either side of him. This decides it: Durán against Gleison Bremer, who started at centre-back for Juventus at Cagliari. Juventus, for their part, failed to score only once in the nine games before that trip, in a friendly. Iago Aspas was back in Celta's squad at Elche but did not come on; if he is fit to start, Bremer has a second finisher to worry about.

Checked Mon 12 Oct 21:15 CEST: rccelta.es (squad list for Elche, medical report) and UEFA.com for Celta; juventus.com (squad list and match sheet for Cagliari), Football Italia, Goal and Sky Sport Italia for Juventus. Reported = not yet confirmed by the club. Line-ups: confirmed about an hour before kick-off; they go under Updates. We don't publish guessed XIs.
Conceição, Nico González and Zhegrova, who scored twice each in the nine Juventus games we hold, are missing from that run's last XI because it was the 2 Oct friendly, played in the international break while Conceição and Nico González were still with Portugal and Argentina (reported); No reason was given for Zhegrova's absence from the friendly. All three played at Cagliari, so the pitch shows the Cagliari XI from the club's match sheet. Hugo González was in Celta's squad at Elche but neither started nor came on, and the club gave no reason (reported). Durán and Jutglà both started at Elche.

Who to watch
The duel to watch: Pablo Durán against Bremer. Durán played through the middle at Elche and has two goals in Celta's last ten games. Bremer anchored the Juventus defence at Cagliari. When Durán drops short to link with Jutglà and Álvarez, Bremer has a choice: if he follows him out, the space opens behind for the runners, and if he sits deep, Celta will have to beat him in the air from crosses.

Our call, explained
We have Juventus winning 1–0. Celta struggle to score, while Juventus have more goals in them. Bremer against Durán is a duel Juventus should win. Juventus also have more ways to score: Conceição and Nico González are back from international duty and both started at Cagliari, and Kolo Muani has found the net. One goal should be enough in Vigo.
What could undo it. If Juventus cannot break Celta down, this ends 0–0 and Celta take a point. The risk on the other side is Balaídos itself, where Celta lost only two of seven in last season's European run; if Aspas starts and Celta score first, Juventus have to chase the game, and a home win comes into play.
