In 30 seconds
- Milan are fourth on 18 points, four behind Inter and Lazio; Bologna are 13th on 8.
- Milan missed Adrien Rabiot, Diego Moreira and Mario Gila at Udinese; Bologna are without Roberto Piccoli and Emil Holm, with Riccardo Orsolini a doubt.
- Milan's home form should carry them, but Bologna have won their last two away games.
The story
Ruben Amorim's AC Milan won 2–0 at Udinese on Sun 25 Oct. Christian Pulisic scored after six minutes and Omari Hutchinson got his first goal for the club. Three days earlier Milan had lost 3–0 at Bournemouth in the Europa League, where Mike Maignan was sent off after 28 minutes. That trip cost Amorim more than the result: Adrien Rabiot, Diego Moreira and Mario Gila all came back injured and missed Udinese.
Raffaele Palladino has been Bologna's coach since September. His side won 2–0 at Cagliari on Sat 24 Oct, with Nicolò Casale heading in Juan Miranda's corner and Federico Bernardeschi scoring a late penalty. It was their second win in their last three league games, after a 3–1 home defeat by Inter on 17 Oct, and it came without Riccardo Orsolini, Roberto Piccoli and Emil Holm.
The table shows what each side needs. Milan have 18 points from eight games, level with Roma and four behind Inter and Lazio at the top. Bologna have 8 and are 13th, level with Sassuolo; an away win would take them to 11, level with Napoli.
This decides it: whether Bologna can score at San Siro without Roberto Piccoli, and perhaps without Riccardo Orsolini. Milan won all three of their league games at home in their last ten. Gonçalo Ramos against Nicolò Casale is where Milan will try to keep that run going.
Form
Three wins in five, and ten goals scored.
Two wins in five, both away. Their last ten also hold two friendly defeats in August, by Brighton and Pisa.

Team news
Checked Mon 26 Oct 07:40 UTC: Football Italia (both clubs), Corriere dello Sport (both clubs) and bolognafc.it (Bologna's training report, Sun 25 Oct). Reported means the club has not confirmed it for this match. Line-ups: confirmed about an hour before kick-off; they go under Updates. We don't publish guessed XIs.
Alphadjo Cissè, who has 4 goals in Milan's last ten, did not start at Udinese but came on in the last minutes, so he is fit. Milan played on Sun 25 Oct and play again on Wed 28 Oct, so the eleven below may well change.

Who to watch
The duel to watch: Gonçalo Ramos against Nicolò Casale. Ramos started up front at Udinese; Casale is in the middle of Bologna's defence and headed their opener at Cagliari. If Casale keeps Ramos quiet, Milan's goals have to come from wide; if Ramos wins those duels, Bologna will spend the night defending their box.

Our call, explained
Our call: AC Milan win 2–1. Milan won all three of their league games at San Siro in their last ten, and Bologna have scored 9 goals in theirs, two August friendlies included, about one a game. Without Piccoli, and perhaps Orsolini, Bologna's goals have to come from elsewhere, as Casale's and Bernardeschi's did at Cagliari. That points to two for Milan, and one for Bologna, because Milan have conceded in six of their last ten.
Where this could go wrong. Milan are short in midfield and defence and play Inter on Sat 31 Oct, so if Amorim rotates, a Bologna side that won its last two away games could take a point, and a draw is likelier than an away win. The other way, Bologna have conceded in nine of their last ten, and if Milan score early, two could be the floor.
Updates
Nothing has changed since we published. Next: The referee appointment, Amorim's and Palladino's pre-match news, then confirmed line-ups, about an hour before kick-off.
Data note: results, scorers, the table and line-ups from our database, read 25 Oct 22:10 UTC, so the counts run to Milan's game at Udinese on 25 Oct and Bologna's at Cagliari on 24 Oct. A player goal count leaves out any goal whose scorer we do not hold, so read each one as a floor.
