Our call: FC Porto win 2–1
Napoli will probably score, but Porto win almost every week in Portugal and Borja Sainz against Giovanni Di Lorenzo gets them the extra goal.
We'll mark this call after full time.

In 30 seconds
- Napoli are 22nd with three points from three games; FC Porto are 34th with none. Only the top 24 stay in the competition.
- Porto have won seven of their last ten games, all of them outside the Champions League.
- Porto's league form against a Napoli side without Stanislav Lobotka.
The story
Francesco Farioli's FC Porto come into Wed 4 Nov from a 4–0 home win over Estoril on Sat 31 Oct, which kept their perfect record in the Portuguese league, Record reports. André Silva came off the bench to score the third goal.
Europe is another story. Porto lost 0–2 at home to Manchester City on 8 Sep, 2–3 at Real Betis on 14 Oct and 0–1 at home to PSV Eindhoven six days later. After three games they are 34th of 36, and Farioli said on 31 Oct that the team wants its first Champions League points.
Massimiliano Allegri's Napoli have three points, from a 4–3 home win over Bodø/Glimt on 20 Oct after defeats by Arsenal and Villarreal. They lost 0–2 at Juventus on Sun 1 Nov with Allegri serving a touchline ban and Marco Landucci on the bench, and they travel without Stanislav Lobotka, who hurt his left ankle at Monza on 28 Oct.
This decides it: Borja Sainz against Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Sainz started in Porto's front three against Estoril and has 4 goals in Porto's last ten; Di Lorenzo started at right-back in Turin. If Di Lorenzo keeps him quiet, Napoli can take a point from the Dragão; if not, Porto's form in Portugal carries over.

Team news

One of Porto's leading scorers did not start on 31 Oct. André Silva, with 4 goals in Porto's last ten, began on the bench against Estoril and came on to score; Farioli said on 30 Oct that he shares the minutes between Samu, Santiago Giménez and André Silva. Nobody has reported him injured. Zaidu Sanusi came off at half-time as a precaution, and Farioli expects him to be fit.

Who to watch
The duel to watch: Borja Sainz against Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Sainz started in Porto's front three against Estoril; Di Lorenzo started at right-back for Napoli in Turin. If Di Lorenzo keeps Sainz quiet, Napoli's Scott McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne will have more of the ball; if Sainz gets past him, Porto will make chances.

Our call, explained
Our call: FC Porto win 2–1. We expect Napoli to score, because they have done it in seven of their last ten, and they have the goals of McTominay and De Bruyne in midfield. We expect Porto to score twice: they won every game outside the Champions League in this run, and Napoli lost three of their last five away games and played without Lobotka in Turin.
Where this could go wrong. Porto have scored two goals in three Champions League games, all of them defeats, and if we're wrong, a draw is likelier than a Napoli win. The other way, Napoli conceded three at home to Roma and three at Villarreal, and if Porto's league form carries over the margin could be bigger than one.
Updates
Nothing has changed since we published. Next: Farioli's and Allegri's press conferences on Tue 3 Nov, UEFA's choice of referee, and both confirmed team sheets about an hour before kick-off.
Data note: results, scorers, the table and line-ups from our database, read 1 Nov 23:10 UTC, so the counts include Porto's game on Sat 31 Oct and Napoli's on Sun 1 Nov. In those ten games the scorer lists have no name for 1 Napoli goal, so each Napoli player's tally is a minimum. Team news and match details from Record, Football Italia and A Bola.
