Our call: Villarreal 1–3 Paris Saint Germain · Paris Saint Germain win

PSG's attack against a Villarreal side still waiting for a Champions League clean sheet, though Villarreal should score too.

We'll mark this call after full time.

In 30 seconds

  • PSG top the league phase on maximum points.
  • Villarreal are 19th of 36 and arrive with Gerard Moreno a doubt.
  • Villarreal will score, but not often enough to end the holders' run.

The story

Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain come to the Cerámica as the holders and as the hottest side in the competition. Their latest win was 5–1 at Le Havre on Fri 30 Oct, where Achraf Hakimi scored a hat-trick from right-back. In this competition they beat Slovan Bratislava, Manchester City and Barcelona, and sit first of 36.

Iñigo Pérez's Villarreal arrive in a worse mood. Espanyol won 1–0 at the Cerámica on Fri 30 Oct through Leandro Cabrera on the hour, and Gerard Moreno went off with a muscle problem after 18 minutes. Pérez said afterwards that these performances were not convincing enough to bring wins. In Europe they lost 3–2 in Dortmund, beat Napoli 3–1 and lost 4–3 at Liverpool, which leaves them with three points.

Full table: Champions League 2026/27 explained

The clubs have never met, UEFA says, and its more telling number is this: Villarreal have gone 14 Champions League games without a clean sheet, a club record.

This decides it: whether Villarreal can keep Achraf Hakimi defending instead of attacking, and Alberto Moleiro is the man who has to do it.

Tani Oluwaseyi, with 3 goals in Villarreal's last ten, scored in the 5–0 Copa del Rey win at Manacor, then started the Espanyol game on the bench and came on for Tajon Buchanan after 80 minutes, laliga.com's match page shows. He is not reported injured, and with Moreno doubtful he could start.

Who to watch

The duel to watch: Alberto Moleiro against Achraf Hakimi. Moleiro started in Villarreal's midfield four against Espanyol, on the left in our reading of the line-up; Hakimi played right-back at Le Havre. If Moleiro pins him back, PSG lose their most dangerous runner; if Hakimi wins it, Villarreal's left side spends the night defending.

Our call, explained

Our call: PSG win 3–1. PSG scored three or more in six of their last ten, so we expect the holders to find three even without Dembélé and Kvaratskhelia: Ferrán Torres, Hakimi, Doué and Mika Godts have shared the goals around. Villarreal should still get one. They scored in 7 of their last 10, put three past Liverpool at Anfield, and PSG conceded twice in each of their two most recent Champions League wins.

Where this could go wrong. Villarreal beat Napoli 3–1 at the Cerámica in October, and if Moreno is fit and Moleiro keeps Hakimi busy, a draw is closer than a home win. The other way, PSG won 6–1 against Slovan Bratislava: if they score early, three may not be their limit.

Updates
